Do we bring safety home?

We talk about safety at work. We say "SAFETY FIRST" or "SAFETY IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY". But all too often, we punch out, go home, and leave our safety on our workbench and desk.

We pull into our drive, enter the house, hug, and kiss our loved ones, and conclude our day. We're home, we feel safe and so do those that we love. After dinner, we tuck our little ones into bed, check for monsters, kiss their cheeks, and wish them sweet dreams. We check the locks on the doors, and then we go to bed to rest up for a new workday tomorrow.

We work hard and follow safety rules to keep our jobs so that we can earn a living to take care of those we love.

We attend safety meetings, participate in training, have fire drills, and perform safety inspections. Sometimes we even get rewarded for having ideas on how to make the worksite safer.

When parents suffer the tragic loss of a child, often they torture themselves afterward. The memories of what they should've done haunt them. Thoughts of "if only I did this" or "I knew better", hammers away at a guilty conscience for a lifetime.

Just think about it. We teach our loved ones our values, we share our faith and family ethics. Shouldn't safety be a value we share with them too? After all, haven’t we been trained? We know what to do, and if we don’t, the price that paid is far too high.

Bring safety home.

Take the safety skills you learn at work home to share with your family. Set an example and instill it as a family value. Help them learn how to make lifestyle choices that help them LIVE-SAFE FOR LOVE's SAKE the rest of their lives.
